More cities and regions are actively carrying out Styrofoam recycling programs

“If you have Styrofoam laying around and are a Republic Services customer, bring that unwanted Styrofoam to a Styrocycle event Saturday, July 14.” I have seen this slogan in Edmonds. For Styrofoam recycling, everyone should take its part.

San Diego allows residents to place Styrofoam food containers in roadside recycling bins. This is not a viable option. The city used HF- H consultants as an objective third-party group to determine whether roadside pickups of Styrofoam waste were feasible. The result turns out that Styrofoam recycling is necessary.

The second annual PlanetCon recycling event returns to western Washington County on Saturday, June 23. Although most roadside recycling programs do not accept common Styrofoam waste, but under pressure from government policy, the city has to carry out its own Styrofoam recycling programs.

Clean and dry Styrofoam materials are accepted in Marion County, but meat trays, egg cartons, coffee cups and takeout containers are not able to be recycled. This service is provided as a free community service.

Although many cities and regions are taking actions to recycle Styrofoam waste, there are still some difficulties.

Styrofoam is notoriously hard to recycle, not because it is difficult to process into new products, but because Styrofoam is designed to weigh next-to-nothing. As Styrofoam is so lightweight and bulky, the solution is to get more of the commodity into the truck to make the trip more profitable.

In order to make Styrofoam transportation easier and more profitable, GREENMAX has designed the professional Styrofoam densifier to achieve foam volume reduction. The whole process is mainly divided into two steps: crushing and melting. The loose Styrofoam is firstly crushed into small piece, and then meted and extruded out as dense blocks at the ratio of 50:1. So that much transportation costs will be saved.

The use of Styrofoam is not expected to decrease in the coming years, so we need more recycling programs to promote Styrofoam recycling.
